The Louisiana Opal is EXTREMELY RARE. and due to its makeup, it does not require any treatment or backings to make it stable, and makes it totally natural unlike most other opals. The one and only mine was opened in the 1980s' in Vernon Parish Louisiana (the only place where this beautiful Opal was found). The mine was called the Louisiana Opal Exchange Mine, or better known as, The Hidden Fire Opal Mine. The mine was only in operation from 1989-1993. The two men who founded the mine kept the location such a secret, that most people that lived in Vernon Parish then and now, don't even know where the mine was located. Today, the property is leased, but NO digging is permitted and there are no traces of the mine left. The mine will never reopen. What was mined when the mine was open is all that remains in the market today (which is very little).
